When it comes to history, particularly Afrikaans history, not many towns in South Africa can rival Graaff-Reinet. Founded in 1786 by the Dutch East India Company, it is the fifth-oldest town in South Africa. Today, Graaff-Reinet is home to more national monuments than any other town or city in South Africa.

It is also the gateway to the Camdeboo National Park - famous for "The Valley of Desolation". There are also many accommodation options in town - but in the considered opinion of the podcaster - Graaff-Reinet is also the home to arguably one of the best hotels in South Africa.
